Hearty Fruit and Oat Smoothie

Serves 2
Recipe from Everyday Food
Husband-Tested in Alice’s Kitchen

When you need breakfast in a hurry, this is the smoothie to make.  Before you go to bed, put the ingredients in the blender and store the pitcher in the fridge. When you wake up, put the pitcher of good-for-you ingredients on the blender base and turn it on.

1 cup plain yogurt
¼ teaspoon vanilla
1-2 teaspoons real maple syrup
1 cup quartered strawberries (frozen strawberries will work when strawberries are not in season)
1 sliced banana
¼ cup raw almonds
½ cup old-fashioned oats

Toss into blender and allow to blend for about 2 minutes or until smooth.

Nutty Idea
Top the smoothies with ¼ cup chopped nuts, such as almonds or walnuts, for a more filling meal.
